The Journal of Information Technology & Politics or JITP, formerly the Journal of E-Government, published its inaugural issue in the fall of 2007. In 2005, the original publisher, The Haworth Press, formed an affiliation with the organized section on Information Technology & Politics (ITP) of the American Political Science Association (APSA). At the September 2006 ITP business meeting, the section voted to adopt JITP on a trial basis starting with the first issue. In 2007, The Haworth Press was acquired by Taylor & Francis and JITP became a Routledge journal. At the 2008 ITP business meeting, the section voted unanimously to adopt JITP as the Official Journal of the ITP section.[1]

The Journal of Information Technology & Politics (JITP) seeks high-quality manuscripts on the challenges and opportunities presented by information technology in politics and government. The primary objectives of the journal are to promote a better understanding of how evolving information technologies interact with political and governmental processes and outcomes at many levels, encourage the development of governmental and political processes that employ IT in novel and interesting ways, and foster the development of new information technology tools and theories that can capture, analyze, and report on these developments.

Prior to the fall of 2007, the journal was known as the Journal of E-Government [www.egovjournal.com]. It was founded in 2004 by the Haworth Press' Civic Resource Group [2] and went on produce 12 issues from 2005 to 2007 [3] before being renamed to the Journal of Information Technology & Politics. The Journal is indexed by Scopus.
